Winter Wonder at Waverley

Holiday weddings truly add to the joy and magic of the season and Emily and Matt’s December event at Waverely Country Club was no exception. This modern couple wanted elegance and a non-traditional approach, so the team at BLC Events got creative. Our delightful bride was terrified of walking down an aisle, so with a little help from our friends at West Coast Events and the talented Suzanne Shick we created a little oasis in the center of the ballroom. The bride and groom entered together and the ceremony took place in the middle of the cocktail hour – it was perfect! The holiday decorations still in place at Waverley, live music from two different bands, and the late-night visit from the very Portland VooDoo Doughnut truck rounded out the thoroughly festive affair – definitely one of our favorites.

Emily is a San Francisco based pilot who grew up in Portland and Matt hails from England, but lives and works in tech in the Bay Area. The entire planning process was virtual yet seamless. The bride’s dress was a custom masterpiece – insanely elegant – with an equally beautiful short dress for later in the reception.

The incomparable team from Olivia Hawthorne worked their magic with Emily’s hair and makeup, matching the classic elegance of her dress. Andrea Zajonc did a masterful job capturing photos of all the day’s magical moments.

In keeping with the modern spirit, the bride and groom set aside time to see each other prior to the ceremony – always ideal for wedding planners and photographers, especially when it produces such fabulous results. The non-traditional wedding party consisted of the groom’s son as best man and the bride’s sister as maid of honor, simply perfect.

The Notables jazz band welcomed guests to the cocktail hour and their music flowed through the ceremony in the round.

The officiant, Fred Bass, took his place on the riser once the guests settled in to the cocktail hour and welcomed Emily and Matt into the room. They strolled in hand-in-hand for the lovely, short ceremony then joined their family and friends for the remainder of the hour. It really was exquisite and a flawless set-up for our aisle-averse bride!

Guests were then invited into the reception for a delectable seated dinner, followed by toasts, cake and dancing the night away! Once again, the impeccable work of Suzanne Shick Floral Design and Waverley’s holiday decor made for a spectacular winter wonderland reception.

Another BLC Events favorite, Dream Cakes, crafted the elegant little dessert. From there, the Design Band took the reins, inviting all the revelers to join Emily and Matt midway through their first dance to Try a Little Tenderness. This festive crowd was on their feet and danced non-stop the rest of the night!

Topping off the festivities, Vanity Portrait Studio treated guests to stunning portrait party-favors and of course, the aforementioned VooDoo Doughnut van pulled up out front for some late-night dance fuel.

As we close in on the holidays and the end of this crazy year that left the BLC Events team with few events to plan and lots of time to reflect, thinking back to Emily and Matt’s December 28th wedding brought smiles to our faces. It was stunning, modern and elegant – a bright and joyous end to our 2019 event season. Cheers to your first anniversary, Emily & Matt! Thank you for trusting BLC Events with your beautiful winter wedding.
