A Home Run for Jared

We had so much fun working with the Norman family to plan their son Jared’s Bar Mitzvah. When it came to selecting a theme it was an easy choice for these baseball ultra fans! The process started with the design of Jared’s custom logo and from there the décor and theme elements just fell into place.

Baseball fin_color-01 %282%29

We loved how the whole family helped with the planning process. We bounced ideas back and forth until we captured the perfect combination of old world baseball meets modern day party! We wanted all the guests to have a great time and feel like they were at the ballpark on a summer afternoon. The attire was casual and the mood was festive.

The baseball theme and Jared’s logo set the stage for the invitation design and many personalized elements throughout the party.

Suzanne Shick from With Appreciation did an amazing job on the décor.

Her combination of floral mixed with iconic baseball elements really set the exact tone we were looking for.

ChefsTable Catering put us in the ballpark mood with their creative and delicious fare. The food at this event had to feel as though it came from a concession stand and taste like it came from a 5 star restaurant. Guests couldn’t get enough of the soft pretzels, sliders and fries and fish tacos! We even carried the theme through dessert with batting helmut ice cream sundae dishes and baseball cake pops!

Anne & Ted’s Wedding

blcevents wedding 9-16-4

I fell in love with this Seattle-based couple at our consultation and knew that the three of us would make a great team. It might have been the fact that Anne and I bonded over our love of dance or it could have been the way they looked at each other when they talked about getting married. Either way, I was thrilled that they selected my team to help with their wedding day.

Anne was very honest telling me that she wasn’t the typical bride. Her busy schedule of work and school was all she could focus on and she really didn’t want to plan a wedding, but couldn’t wait to be married to Ted. It was my goal to make sure that we took the worry off their plates and that we planned and executed the wedding of their dreams.

As we began to work together, it became evident that this was going to be a very modern wedding. They were going to throw many of the typical wedding traditions out the window and instead focus on a thoroughly modern event that celebrated their backgrounds, families and their passion for enjoying life to the fullest. We selected the Benson Hotel’s Crystal Room in Downtown Portland. It was the perfect fit for this couple;  simple and elegant for the Bride while offering interesting architectural details for the Groom.

Since family and heritage are both so important to Anne and Ted, they insisted on honoring their family traditions in their own way. The ceremony, officiated by Rabbi Rachel Joseph, included many traditional Jewish elements (like the minimalist Chuppah designed by the groom and traditional prayers) and well as a Japanese sake ceremony, reflecting the groom’s Japanese heritage.

One of my favorite “traditions with a twist” from this wedding was the wedding cake. They mixed it up a bit with this delectable chocolate creation from Dream Cakes Portland, along side an unbelievably delicious apple pie from Pacific Pie Co. to honor the groom’s dad and his love of apple pie.

We always ask our couples what the most important priority is for their wedding. For this couple, that was an easy answer….They wanted to dance! DJ Zimmie had everyone up on the dance floor late into the evening.

There was a tremendous amount of love in the room that night. Love for families,  love for friends and a love between a bride and groom that was an honor to witness.

Chris & Jason Are Married

portland wedding planner petz riley6 blog

Take a beautiful day in PDX, mix it with a quirky and fun venue, a room full of special friends and two fun-loving grooms and you get Chris & Jason’s wedding. We were honored that they chose blcevents to be their wedding day coordinators and we worked our hardest to ensure that their wedding day was all they could ask for.

We met Chris and Jason a few weeks before their big day, but their relationship dates back to their college days in Pennsylvania.  Their jobs and spirited souls brought them to Oregon where they’ve build a strong community, many of whom joined them at The Colony in St. John’s for their wedding day.

Our grooms were married by their dear friend, Nicole Thibideau, who got ordained just for this occasion. Zest Floral provided a minimalist design palate which totally fit the wedding couple’s modernist vision.

The couple’s playful nature was reflected throughout their entire wedding, from the personalized wedding program to their music selection. You know it’s going to be a party when the couple’s recessional song is Making Our Dreams Come True (the Laverne & Shirley theme song) and their party introduction selection is Movin’ On Up (the theme to the ‘70’s television show, The Jeffersons)!

Lauren & Alex Get Married

Lauren Alex Waverly Golf Club Low Res-5

Lauren and Alex met in the 9th grade Algebra class at Lake Oswego High School and from the moment they met you could say this couple became a “perfect number”.  They dated through high school and college and always knew they were destined to be together.

They selected Waverley Country Club as their venue because of its gorgeous setting and the fond memories it held for Lauren. Not even the Oregon liquid sunshine that fell that day could put a damper on this couple’s perfect moment!

Surrounded by their family and friends, including countless high school and college friends who have watched their love grow, you could sense that everyone was overjoyed for the bride and groom. This local bride and groom knew that they wanted their wedding day to reflect their love, the love of friends and family and their Oregon roots.

The warm and personal ceremony was performed by Melissa Coe who captured all the special elements of Lauren and Alex’s history together. Zest Floral created the stunning floral backdrop to fit this couple’s vision. Gorgeous pink and white peonies and garden roses lined the aisle and framed the magnificent chuppah.

After the cocktail hour the guests took their seats as Waverley’s talented chef and staff dazzled guests with a four course dinner. The stunning linens from La Tavola and the romantic centerpieces  from Zest created a picture perfect reception. This Oregon couple wanted to embrace their home state in as many details as possible. From the Oregon Pinot Noir poured at the wedding, to the custom cake topper, sitting atop the delicious cake from Dream Cakes, we made sure it was obvious that their Oregon roots were well represented.

Emma’s Quinceanera

One of the most important celebrations in Hispanic culture is the tradition of the quinceañera, a ceremony on a girl’s fifteenth birthday, marking her passage to womanhood and presenting her to the community. Emma wanted to celebrate this part of her Hispanic culture, but her parents needed to be convinced.  After preparing and presenting her very persuasive PowerPoint  presentation, her parents agreed. They knew they would need help, so they called us.

Emma is a girl who knows exactly what she wants. It was important to her to incorporate some of the traditional quinceañera rituals, while at the same time, creating an event that was modern and elegant…just like Emma.  The color pink and tiaras were our design inspirations, so we channeled our inner princesses to make all of Emma’s wishes come true.

After the traditional mass at Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Lake Oswego, the guests made their way to the Multnomah Athletic Club  for a stunning  reception.  We transformed the entrance to the ballroom  to befit our princess and her royal court.

The décor on the tables and around the room  were a stunning mix of fabulous pink floral with touches of bling to complete the fantasy.

Some of the traditional rituals were the dance of the royal court, the changing of the shoes ceremony and the lighting of the 15 candles to honor Emma’s family and friends.

Why Hire an Event Planner?

In the past, many have thought that hiring an event planner was an extravagance only meant for the elite. After all, why spend money for something you could “do yourself”? Today, however, times have changed. The costs and complexity of planning any event, but most especially weddings, have many people turning to an event planner. Here are some reasons why you should hire an event planner:

Save yourself the hassle, time and energy. You will be able to enjoy the event with out worry or stress. They work within your budget. They make sure things run smoothly from start to finish and every little detail in between. They can help you with venue selection, budget, contracts, design and decor, making sure all your expectations are met. They have established relationships with many vendors, which will save you time and money when they make the arrangements (food, lights, entertainment, etc.). You can feel like a guest at your own party with out having to worry about how everything is running. They do full planning, month-of planning and day-of coordination. These are just a few reasons how an event planner can help to make your event flawless. Whether it be for a corporate event or meeting, wedding, birthday party or family reunion, make sure to celebrate with a big bang! Hire an event planner and celebrate without stress.
