Molly & Beau A Waverley Country Club Wedding

Waverley Country Club Wedding

The saying goes that rain on your wedding day is good luck. The atmospheric river that descended on Molly and Beau’s June 11th nuptials, according to our bride, meant “we must be set for life!” Fortunately, as seasoned Portland wedding planners, BLC Events had plenty of contingencies in place for the welcome to town party, church wedding, and Waverley reception that kicked off our 2022 “summer of weddings”. A little bit of luck, a squeegee brigade, a lot of umbrellas plus a really great attitude from the wedding party and the exceptional vendors, made for the wedding weekend of their dreams, even with more water falling than any native Oregonian can remember!

Ironlight Wedding Party

The pivoting started Friday along with the first tidal wave of rain. After the wedding rehearsal at Our Lady of the Lake church and the rehearsal dinner at Oswego Lake Country Club, the wedding party, family and friends were treated to a Welcome to Town Cocktail Party that was supposed to be outside at the Ironlight in Lake Oswego. The balcony at this venue is amazing, but luckily, so is the adjoining event room, so we shifted inside. With lounge spaces and cocktail tables from The Party Place, fresh floral from our visionary Roger at Haute Flowers and heavenly drinks and nibbles from the Art of Catering, guests barely noticed the monsoon outside! Jai Soots from Love & Photography was on-hand to capture all the moments from the evening.

This Portland wedding planner was happy to have a fabulous little shin-dig to distract us from the messages we were getting from Waverley about water coming up under the sides of the dinner tent we had put up on the (much drier) previous day!

Wedding Invitations

Crave Design‘s gifted stationer, Lisa, created the exquisite invitation suite for the Terrell-Beyrle wedding and the team from Sweetlife Photography produced breathtaking, elevated portraits of every detail and moment from the preparations to the ceremony and reception.

Happily, the river in the sky calmed to (wedding) showers on Saturday with several convenient breaks – enough for the Waverley team to squeegee the greens under the dinner tent, for Sweetlife to capture all the essential wedding portraiture without umbrellas, and the wedding party and guests able to get in and out of both wedding and reception venues without getting soaked. This was also a relief for the incomparable crew from Olivia Hawthorne Beauty who had the bridal party’s hair and make-up picture perfect and kept it that way all day!

The threat of a soggy “floor” in the dinner tent averted, the decor magic proceeded without incident around the country club and over at the church. Neutrals were back on-point for this summer’s weddings, and only Roger and his team at Haute Flowers could create such breathtaking displays in white. Our go-to vendor for all things tables, chairs, bars and lounges, West Coast Event Productions set-up everything we needed to transform Waverley into our couple’s dream reception space.

One o’clock and the bus was ready to get the wedding party to the church on time! Molly & Beau met in high school and were such an ideal match, they continued to build their relationship long-distance through college. Their home town wedding ceremony at Our Lady of the Lake was heartfelt, full of love and faith. Duo con Brio played the classic ceremony music, Deacon Kevin Welch presided and not even the Father of the Bride could escape the emotion of the beautiful nuptials.

Everyone was ready to celebrate the newly minted Mr. & Mrs. Beyrle with his & hers cocktails, touching toasts, savory hors d’oeuvres and a delectable dinner back at Waverley. We are so thankful to Letters + Dust for creating all the signage for the weekend. The favorite detail was a surprise from us – the custom “I Do, Too” cocktail napkins featuring the couples’ beloved dog, Leo – they were ecstatic!

Our top choice for live music at receptions is one of the few things we import – the talented Matchmaker Band out of Austin, Texas. They led the party from dinner into the the reception with our treasured New Orleans traditional second line. We had A Beautiful Union videographer on-site all day to film all these memorable moments.

After Molly & Beau’s first dance, the party was ON! Matchmaker Band kept the guests rolling on the river – dancing well into the night. Greenlight Creative set the mood with innovative lighting and Stumptown Booth set up the revelers with perfect party favors to remember the evening. The couple decided to buck tradition with their dessert, opting for our famous local Salt & Straw ice cream over cake (set in it’s very own PDX Ice sculpture display). As guests retired for the night, the newlyweds treated them to one more favor – a bouquet of flowers from their special day.

We’ve known Molly since she was a little girl – her family lived across the street from us. It was such a privilege to plan her wedding and an absolute delight to work with the couple and their families to open this new chapter. Thank you to the Terrells and the Berlyes for trusting BLC Events with all the details.

One more felicitous break in the rain allowed for a stunning sunset to send the Berlyes off into. We think your roll-with-it, positive attitudes and the love and care you have for each other, your family and friends, paired with the “lucky” atmospheric river of rain really will set you up for life! Congratulations!
